"Shirley Crow’s oil paintings are dreamy, amorphous depictions
of swelling, abstract energies. The artist refers to them as
""Chunks of the Universe" —ambiguous organic forms that
are powered by [her] sense of a hidden layer, an energy
that can be felt, but not seen." The movement in these
paintings appears to express the ever-changing and uncertain
direction of life’s force in the face of the unknowable future,
both from the individual’s point of view as well as that of the planet
and entire galactic systems. Crow attempts to capture the awe and
beauty that is evoked by this constantly transforming reality, one
that is more and more a dance of the human mind interfacing with
the machine."
